IIS TRACK Method Information Disclosure

Legacy HTTP method echo behavior should be disabled before it can expose request headers.

The hook

CVE-2003-1567 describes legacy Microsoft IIS behavior where the undocumented TRACK method can return the original request content. That matters because reflected request headers can become sensitive when combined with vulnerable clients, browser behavior, or cross-site tracing conditions.

How it works

This active check confirms whether user-controlled input or workflow behavior crosses a security boundary. Public docs keep the explanation high-level so customers understand the risk. For check-specific questions about exact detection heuristics, active payload details, or source-code rule patterns, contact support@fixvibe.app.

The blast radius

If a legacy IIS 5.0 host or another HTTP layer still echoes request headers for TRACK, operators should treat it as an information-disclosure risk and remove the method from every layer that can answer for the hostname. The finding does not claim that FixVibe captured cookies, credentials, user traffic, or a live browser exploit.

What FixVibe checks

FixVibe checks this class with verified-domain active testing that is bounded, non-destructive, and evidence-driven. Public reports describe the affected surface and remediation. For check-specific questions about exact detection heuristics, active payload details, or source-code rule patterns, contact support@fixvibe.app.

Ironclad defenses

Disable TRACK and TRACE at the CDN, WAF, reverse proxy, IIS, and origin layers. For legacy IIS 5.0 systems, migrate to a supported IIS release where possible or enforce method denial before requests reach IIS, then rerun a verified active scan.
